June 1965. During his three years as head of militia Rodion Stotskiy has turned Gurzuf into the most peaceful place on the southern coast of Crimea. Even the beach con men here prefer not to take action. The murder of a cashier and a militioner during the attack on a car carrying salaries to “Artek” becomes his personal challenge.
Stotskiy understands that the car attack is connected to the recent shooting of a taxi on Yaltinskaya highway and maybe with the daring robbery on a “Moscow-Simferopol” train. But he doesn’t realize, that a sister and her husband, who recently arrived to his girlfriend Alina, are those very robbers from the train.
Regina and Arkady are preparing to strike an illicit casino. Taras Zaitsev, an old acquaintance of Stotskiy, arrives to Gurzuf and helps him investigate the heist of the collector’s car.
Stotskiy realizes, that the latest criminal events are connected to one Chapai, the initiator of an illicit casino in Gurzuf. Someone wants to set him up, accusing of all those criminal offenses. With Chapai Stotskiy is setting up a trap for the miscreants.
While Rodion Stotskiy and Taras Zaitsev await the criminals in an ambush, Chapai is arrested on charges of murder. And those who the crafty trap was meant for are found murdered. Someone is thoroughly covering his tracks.
Regina and Arkady proceed to the final stage of their “revenge plan”, after which they are planning to flee to Australia. It becomes clear, that those who want to set Chapai up, have their people within both Chapai’s and Stotskiy’s inner circles.
Stotskiy finds the one who wanted to set Chapai up. He then discovers that Regina and Arkady, who he communicated with constantly in recent times, are involved both in the train robbery and the daring illicit casino heist.
Regina and Arkady bring their “revenge plan” to an end. On his way to Gurzuf Arkady is arrested. Regina, who remains free, is preparing his escape. The investigation is closed, all the violators are captured. Routine paperwork is what’s left. But during one of the interrogations, Stotskiy realizes, that during all this time he’d been nothing but pawn in someone’s hands.
