When Maeve and Mark meet on a London street, they soon realize they have something in common: they're both dead. At least they have each other as they cope with the shock of their demises and discover the odd realities of the afterlife.
As Maeve and Mark attend their own funerals, they are confronted by their pasts: a cold and distant mother, and a father who wasn't around. Each turns to the other for help, and Maeve makes a surprising discovery about her brother
Mark and Maeve find an abandoned baby and learn that their actions can affect the lives of others. Maeve takes revenge on Freddie, her faithless lover, with behavior that shocks Mark. Meanwhile, Mark holds his infant son for the first time.

Maeve promises Mark that she will learn the truth about Freddie and Jo's relationship. After finding the car that struck and killed her, she goes in search of the driver. Mark has an unexpected chance to spend time with his daughter, and Maeve makes peace.
