Some recently made unemployed factory workers need Mack's help in suing Greg for wrongful termination of contracts. Greg had fired everyone regardless of the written agreement he signed promising not to close the factory after buying it from Gary. The agreement is hidden in a box somewhere in the Ewing warehouse. Abby informs Karen and Val that she has decided to move to Malibu. Her plans come to a halt through after the IRS freezes all of her assets for failure to pay some back taxes. Abby is able to convince Greg to give her the money she needs if she steals the agreement from the Ewing warehouse. Greg is surprised to see Anne at the ranch after she returns from Paris. Mack and Karen are questioned by Meg about her real biological father. Mack ends up lying to her when he decides not to tell her about Greg. Val, now a best-selling author, shares her news with Gary that a major film studio is going to film a movie based on her latest novel. Clay McKinney is assigned to be her writing partner. Gary is surprised when Kate shows up to see him with some very disturbing news.

Val and Gary find out that Clay McKinney has been found dead, floating face down in his swimming pool. Val is quizzed by the police about an earring they discovered near the pool as she was the last person to see him alive. Val insists that the earrings don't belong to her and she refuses to tell Gary what happened the last time she saw Clay. Gary ends up accusing her of having affair with Clay. Greg ends up deciding to settle the lawsuit brought against him by Mack and the factory workers and calls of his deal with Abby. Abby has already employed a friend called Robert though to break into the Ewing warehouse. When Abby shows up at the warehouse she discovers it on fire and Robert nowhere around. Karen is upset when Mack refuses to tell her what is on his mind and he distances himself from her. Val has to decide whether to tell the police and Gary about what really happened at Clay's house the day before he was murdered. Abby pries into Greg's private business looking to find something she can use to blackmail him to get the money she needs. Both Karen and Abby find out that they are going to become grandmothers.
