The series revolves around special agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta's overwhelmed foster care system. But now, determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.

The second season returns as the brilliant special agent Will Trent continues to offer his expertise to solve Georgia's most unique cases. Season 2 begins with a bang (literally and metaphorically) and it somehow ends on a more shocking note as Will, Faith, and Michael investigate a string of murders of pedophiles.

The third season continues the story from the fallout between Will and Angie, focusing on Will's clashing found families and the reappearance of his foster brother, Rafael. The season includes investigations into corruption and a bioweapons attack by a domestic group called the Founder's Front, leading to a confrontation with Will's biological father.

The fourth season returns as Will struggle with his mental health and anger management following the return of serial killer James Ulster, who breaks out of prison to haunt him, throwing Will into a mental tailspin and forcing him to confront his past, including his mother's death. As he tries to build a relationship with his birth father Caleb, he undergoes therapy with Dr. Roach to handle his rage. Angie navigates a new relationship with Seth, while Faith investigates cases that challenge her, including a hostage situation and human trafficking.
